Rosehip (Rosa canina) is the fleshy, ripened scarlet ovary, or seeded fruit, of the rose plant. It forms at the base of the rose petals and is picked in autumn when all of the petals have fallen off. While many rose varieties are grown for their beauty and fragrance, the Rosa canina is cultivated for its rosehips.
Rosehips contain carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin), flavonoids, polyphenols, leucoanthocyanins and catechins.*
