Common Name: Mulberry
Botanical Name: Morus alba L
Growing Area: Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America

General Info:
Mulberry trees reach heights of 15 to 70 feet tall, depending on the species. The fruits range in color from white or pinkish to a deep purple or black. Various species of Mulberry are grown all over the world in the warmer temperate regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. Since fresh Mulberries are fragile and perishable, they are not grown commercially in the United States.

Nutrients & Applications:
Mulberry fruits and leaves contain a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients. Mulberry extract contains moranoline, which delays the absorption of carbohydrates and promotes healthy glucose levels already within normal range. The anthocyanins in Mulberry are strong antioxidants and may provide cardiovascular protection, immune enhancement, and stress reduction as potential health benefits. Mulberries are also a source of resveratrol, which functions as both an antioxidant and an anticoagulant.

Mulberry has long been used in traditional medicines. Among its many uses, it has been given as a tonic to treat the kidneys, fatigue, anemia, and weakness. Clinical research has shown that Mulberry can provide multiple health benefits, including helping to promote healthy glucose levels; encouraging healthy cellular replication and membrane stability; promoting healthy cholesterol; and controlling the digestion of carbohydrates. *
