Common Name: Garcinia Cambogia
Botanical Name: Garcinia cambogia
Growing Area: Asia, Africa, Australia

General Info:
Garcinia Cambogia is a medium-sized, flowering evergreen tree, native to India. It can be found in parts of Asia, West and Central Africa, Australia, and Polynesia. Garcinia Cambogia trees prefer moist forest lands.

A member of the citrus family and related to Mangosteen, Garcinia Cambogia bears a small yellow fruit that looks like a miniature pumpkin or acorn squash. This fruit has a distinct sweet and sour taste and is generally considered too acidic to be eaten raw. However, the dried fruit is concentrated and used in curries in India, and the fruit extract is traditionally taken after high-fat meals to aid digestion.

Nutrients & Applications:
Hydroxycitric acid (HCA), extracted from the fruit of Garcinia Cambogia, can be found in many popular weight loss products. HCA may help promote the digestion of carbohydrates, allowing the body to convert them to energy instead of converting and storing these carbs as fat.

It may help maintain normal blood sugar levels, encourage the production of serotonin, and stimulate synthesis of glycogen, which signals a sense of fullness to the brain. These effects may in turn help increase the metabolism and curb excessive appetite. Garcinia Cambogia also encourages thermogenesis.

Garcinia Cambogia contains bioflavonoids, xanthones, and benzophenones, and citric, tartaric, and phosphoric acids, as well as significant levels of vitamin C. Another potentially helpful constituent of Garcinia Cambogia is known as garcinol, which can help maintain normal levels of acidity within the stomach.

Garcinia Cambogia can also promote healthy cholesterol levels, as well as support normal menstruation and bowel and liver health. *
