General Info:
Borojo is a mid-sized tree, averaging 10 to 15 feet in height, that grows in Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama. This tree grows in the shade of other trees, and thrives in the rainy, humid climate. Male Borojo trees have clusters of fragrant white flowers; female trees have individual white flowers, which mature into fruits.

Borojo fruits are about the size of a grapefruit, round and green, with brown pulp and many seeds. Borojo fruits are known to be ripe when they turn light brown and fall to the forest floor, and are then gathered where they land. Eaten alone, the fruits have a pleasant though somewhat acidic taste.

Borojo fruit is traditionally used in jam, desserts, ice cream, and candies, among other things -- not the least of which is the famed Jugo del Amor ("Juice of Love").

Nutrients & Applications:
Borojo has a high nutritional value, being an excellent source of protein, vitamin C, calcium, and iron. It is also high in fiber, and is one of the best fruit sources of phosphorus, which can provide energy and contribute to the strength of teeth and bones. Phosphorus is also helpful for brain functions such as memory and concentration.

The B vitamin content of Borojo provides support for healthy skin and muscles, enhances the immunological and nervous systems, and may help maintain mental equilibrium. Not only that, the levels of essential amino acids in Borojo fruits are amazingly high -- three times higher than that found in meat!

Borojo may help maintain normal levels of blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol, as well as normal estrogen production in women. Borojo can provide support for the bronchial system, and help the metabolism and immune system with healthy cellular regeneration.

Researchers have also discovered in Borojo a substance called "sesquiterpelantond" -- which, though hardly pronounceable, shows promise in further supporting the body's health!

This fruit is also very famous in Colombia for its reported aphrodisiac properties.*
